I found out tonight that my buddy Ben used to play on a basketball team with Trot Nixon when they were in their teens. He thought Trot was a shithead though. A really famous shithead in Boston, now.

the red sox nation is my new favorite group of people. congrats, mike. i think i *will* make my way up there early in the season. there was talk of coming up on saturday if it had gone to game 6. my brains are drained... i'm glad to get some sleep tonight.

Headlines like "pigs can fly, hell has frozen over" seem to be popular. The New York Times has been a bit restrained, but I suppose that's the NYT. My Uncle E, who worked at Fenway Park as a kid, is unbelievably happy. Congrats, Mike. I bet your mother is pretty incoherent as well.

The fan pandemonium was to be expected. Victors, historically, indulge in looting and pillaging. Odd how these days they will pillage their own cities.

Next year: the Cubs.

Congratultions Mike! That's was one hell of an eight game streak. Just awesome.

Congrats to all in Red Sox Nation. I still can't believe that they swept. The Cardinals seemed so unstoppable, but their top hitters were mum throughout the entire series.

Mike: be sure to tell Theo that I'll be waiting at the altar.

Six long months without baseball. What, oh what, to do with myself?

K: I'm told that I snore, too. But hopefully not nearly as much as my mom. The volume reaches freight train level. It's really bad.

My brother is in the living room, recovering from knee surgery. He spent most of the weekend asleep (Percoset will do that, it seems). Normally, he snores loudly, grunts, sighs, and mutters. On painkillers, more so. Normally the muttering is indistinct, but on the painkillers he's been doing more distinct talking in his sleep - gets confusing for those of us checking in on him.

Dad snores really loudly. My sisters and I all snore, but not as loudly. My youngest sister and I talk in our sleep - I know that she speaks clearly in full sentences, and I've been told that I do the same and have even had conversations. We have no memory of doing so. Our nephew does things while sleepwalking, like opening the fridge door and climbing over the couch. He's also a restless sleeper, always has been. I've been told my dreaming is contagious.

Reflecting on this, I'm surprised we've never had a multiple sleeper incident. Or maybe we have and don't remember?

Z, I can see the background fine - like coffee with lots of cream. If I glance to left and get the sidebar, I fall to the floor with my hands over my ears.

Anybody having trouble seeing the new background?

Hey look, autumn has come to Lake Effect! Post-season weather!

Sunday, October 24, 2004

I imagine Boston is beautiful tonight.

When I was 14, I didn't have a big sister to sew things for me. I sewed them myself. Which is why I now have the skills to sew things for my baby sister, so I should probably be making her do it all herself, but instead I charged her $6.00. She bargained me down to $5.75. I'm also making 4 more similar dolls for her to give to her friends, and I'm not charging her for those because she's supposedly working on them too. All she has to do is take the pieces I've sewn together, turn them right side out, and stuff them. Progress so far: 4 bodies, 2 arms.

i apologize, i was half asleep when i wrote that last post. let me clarify... i know you are a die hard astros fan, angie. my dilemma was that i didn't know who i was supposed to root for as a new sox fan... who would we have an easier time beating during the world series. as sad as i am for you that the astros didn't make it, i'm as happy that i don't have torn feelings between rooting for the sox and feeling bad for playing against my friend angies' team.
in sappy/mushy news, i went to the place where you buy mixed six packs of beer (i don't drink beer, but i was buying them for clay), i got him one in honor of the last game that was a boston ale. i was asleep when he discovered it in my refrigerator, but he said it made him think "awwww," and smile. [enter snide zach comment here].
i am in desperate need of new clothes, i.e. sweaters and pants for work. i hope to solve most of this problem over the weekend.

I love you Upma, but good Lord have you been living under a rock???? I'm a die-hard ASTROS fan. Even if we ended our season in dramatic fashion tonight. My boys put up a good run starting in August and through half of October. The team far exceeded the expections of everyone -- players, managers, analysts, the city, etc. Our team was all heart because we had no starting pitching, and our bullpen sucked big turd. One of the best players in baseball was on our team for four amazing months. He played ball like no one you'd ever imagine. I really cannot complain about our season.

For the next two weeks, I'll be cheering for the Red Sox.

I suppose that I can get to the long list of things that I've neglected since early April.....

RE: pics of Sandy Joe. I'm a dummy when it comes to posting pics. I'll try to e-mail you some.

being part of the red sox nation is quite stressful. i never knew baseball could be so fascinating. i've been barely functioning all day because i've been up past my bedtime all week... watching damn baseball. i can't believe i let a boy do this to me. anyway, hi five mike. i have a party i have to go to on saturday, but i'm sure i'll tune in for about the last half.
right now, i need a hot bath and it's early to bed. good luck angie, (although i'm not sure who i'm really supposed to be rooting for here). when are you posting pictures of sandy joe?
z-- where ya be? tell people i say hi. have you seen gavin? how long is he here for? is he here? is he coming to philthy? give him a HUGE hug and kiss for me. xoxoxox

Anyone doing anything special for Halloween? I think I'm going to a costume party. As what, I dunno.

This was apparently quite the thing a quarter of a century ago.

Everyone: put your Astros gear on (Mike, it's time to drag out that Clemens t-shirt jersey). If you don't own Astros gear, anything with a star on it will do just fine. Absolutely, postively no red. We should have never lost that game last night the way we did, but tonight is a chance to redeem ourselves. The cliche do or die is applicable. Pins and needles, pins and needles.

I believe it is now safe for Mike to go near windows and bridges, seeing as how he's floating on air.

Angie, the dog looks adorable and sounds super sweet!

Monday, October 18, 2004

Angie - congrats on the new dog. How exciting!
I know nothing of baseball so I'm glad things are going well on that front for you Lake Effectors.

Mike: congrats on the come-from-behind win! Good stuff. My team is also coming from behind. We're tied at 2-2 for the series. We have to win two more games in order to advance to the next round -- the World Series. If it ends up being a Sox-Astros series, watch out for a war of words between Mike and me.

In other big news....I took the plunge and am now a mommy. I adopted Sandy Joe, a 9-years-young Sheltie-Lab mix from the SPCA. She is a sweetie, so much that she was pet of the week. Apparently she was one of the favorites at the shelter. We need to work on some basic commands, but overall she's a great dog!

Friday, October 15, 2004

Mike, I'd feel a lot better if you stayed far, far away from bridges, train tracks, and empty elevator shafts this weekend.

Mike F. and I are experiencing similar pains -- both of our teams are halfway down the road of elimination for the season!

LE CD mix: I believe that some individuals (they know who they are) did not submit songs.

Thursday, October 14, 2004

whatever happened to the Lake Effect CD mix?

Wednesday, October 13, 2004

I still don't like hot weather, but Reed's Extra Ginger Brew (chilled to so cold it's almost forming ice crystals), poured into a chilled glass and then topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream makes the stickiness of my t-shirt almost bearable.

who else has audio capabilities with ichat? i just found out about this!!
ok. debate time. i hope kerry whoops ass. i hope sox whoop ass. go teams!

Thank you!

Steph, the photos look beautiful. Congrats on the show!

We have a relative staying with us, and to save on confusion, I call him my cousin (fathers cousins son = ?). So far, two people have heard "___, this is my cousin J" as "___, this is my husband J." Granted, the family resemblance is faint. All the same.

Thanks, Angie. Yes, it's the same Natalie from High School. And speaking of high school, I booked my tickets last night to go to the 10 year reunion. I hope it's fun.

Stephanie: Congrats on the opening! Was that Natalie from high school Natalie? Former cheerleader?

I've been sweating bullets the last few nights, with this crazy baseball stuff. Alas, we've made it to round 2. Our games are Wed., Thurs., Sat. and Sun. Just to give you an idea of the magnitude, my dad called me at 7 a.m. yesterday morning to bitch about the game Sun. night -- the manager sucked, why didn't they pitch out with a speedy runner on first, why the hell did they pull the pitcher and the right fielder so quickly. He couldn't sleep because he was so pissed off.

I can't remember if I've mentioned but I joined a flag football team. Thing is, I know NOTHING about football. I mean NOTHING. So I pretty much suck but it's fun.

I just posted new photos to the photoblog from my gallery opening this week. It was awesome - my face hurt from smiling by the end of the night. Now I'm all fired up to work on some business cards for the photoblog, enter a work craft fair, etc.
Fall - it makes me so industrious.

Baseball season has taken over my life. Talk about textbook obsessive compulsive. I read about half a dozen sports sites a day and get into numerous discussions, some that don't even pertain to my team. I don't talk to nearly as many friends (unless they accompany me to the games), and it seems that the rest of my life has been put on hold. I need to reogranize stuff for my civic club, add some potting soil to my flower beds, reduce clutter at the house and haul my ass back to the gym, among many other things. Still, my team will play at least another three games, so the above list of tasks will have to wait until then.

Mike F.: what do you think about Curt being named the #1 and Pedro the #2?

did my first pilates workout today, i love it.
my new work schedule is not condusive to one who wants a rock and roll lifestyle. drag.
apparently there's gonna be hot red sox action at my house this week, while the boy just moved and has no cable of his own yet.
well. bedtime. lame.

One of the big local stories in the media here (the other is West Nile virus) is about a former chief of police getting hit by a car (Stolen Car Hit Nakamura). Not only is Mr Nakamura a retired police chief, he's in a wheelchair because he has ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). The 20 year old who hit him was driving without a license in a stolen vehicle and didn't stop, but turned himself in later. I can just imagine the charges.
